Do you or someone you know suffer with aching legs, swelling or unsightly veins?

If so, these may be symptoms of Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). CVI is a progressive problem that can lead to serious complications if left untreated. A common sign of CVI is varicose veins. But just because you don’t see varicose veins doesn’t mean you don’t have CVI. People who develop CVI may experience a feeling of heaviness in their legs; fatigue or aching in their leg muscles; swelling, skin discoloration, tenderness or soreness; wounds that don’t heal; or leg cramps at night.

Varicose veins and other vein disorders should be treated for what they really are – medical problems. The expert doctors at CiC Vein treat the full spectrum of artery and vein disease using the latest technology in our state-of-the-art facility. Most conditions can be improved with nearly painless procedures performed right in our office.

Innovative techniques can improve the condition and as a result the appearance improves as well. One of the newest procedures available is VenaSeal™. With this technique, the problem veins are sealed shut using tiny drops of medical grade adhesive. The goal is to block the abnormal blood flow so that it is redirected to other, healthy veins. The procedure is quick and effective, and you usually don’t need to wear a compression stocking after, which is a benefit during our hot weather. Typically, patients leave with just a small Band-Aid.

7 Tips for preventing or slowing the progression of varicose veins.

Blow the Whistle on vein disease™!

Watch it. Watch your weight, according to the CDC losing 5 to 10 percent of your total body weight can decrease your risk factors for chronic diseases related to obesity.

Hose it. Hosiery, like compression stockings and socks apply pressure to your legs which may help veins function properly and reduce discomfort and swelling.

Increase it. Increase your activities, regular exercise promotes good circulation, maintains ideal weight, and improves overall vascular health.

Stop it. Stop smoking, smoking narrows blood vessels and limits blood supply to the skin. When you stop smoking, after just 3 days you’ll breathe easier and have more energy.

Twitch it. Twitch your legs and fidget, don’t sit or stand in one position for long periods of time and avoid crossing your legs. Changing positions frequently encourages blood flow.

Loosen it. Loosen those laces and jeans, avoid tight shoes or clothes that might restrict blood flow.

Elevate it. Elevate your legs whenever you can, raising your legs above your heart helps improve circulation. When you are lying down, try putting your feet up on a few pillows.

Things to ask yourself and discuss with one of our doctors:

Are your legs painful?
Does your skin burn or itch?
Does anything seem to improve your symptoms?
Does anything make your symptoms worse?
Have you had varicose veins for a while?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, our doctors would be happy to see you and talk about what those answers mean during a vein-check appointment. Call 801-810-2999 today.
